Munich September 5, 2017 – The seventh SevenVentures Pitch Day (7VPD) will take place on October 26th at the DLD Conference Berlin. Effective immediately, start-ups can apply to participate in the competition sponsored by SevenVentures, the investment arm of ProSiebenSat.1, to win a TV and online advertising package worth more than EUR 3 million. Forbes Magazine calls 7VPD the most important global start-up competition.

SevenVentures is offering the winner a complete media and service package that includes a EUR 3 million TV advertising budget, EUR 200,000 online marketing budget and EUR 40,000 for the production of their own TV spot. And for the first time the winner will also receive support from a popular influencer. Lifestyle and fitness expert Sophia Thiel will provide the start-up with tips, tricks and sound advice for their entrepreneurial journey.

The spotlight is on young growth enterprises with physical products

This year the search is on for the most creative and innovative B2C start-ups with unique physical products. These companies should have established a scalable business model and already be at a stage of development where they can master the production demands triggered by a successful TV campaign. Eligible to participate in the competition are both German companies which want to advertise their products on ProSiebenSat.1 TV stations as well as international companies that are not yet active in the German market, but are looking to expand into Germany in the future.

Four finalists will have the chance to present their concepts live on stage to an expert jury of industry experts, influencers and well-known media personalities. This year’s panel of experts includes TV presenter and start-up investor Joko Winterscheidt and SevenVentures CEO Florian Pauthner.

Munich, August 2, 2017 –  SevenVentures, ProSiebenSat.1 Group’s financial investor, has invested in Casper, a mattress start-up based in the US, as part of a media-for-equity investment. In addition to the strategic investor Target Global and renowned financial investors such as NEA and Lerer Hippeau SevenVentures also bought into the start-up during the C round. 

 

Florian Pauthner, CEO of SevenVentures: “Casper is an extremely promising company that controls the entire value chain and all sleep-related product areas. Sales in Germany are still shaped by brick-and-mortar business above all. SevenVentures: Successful Sale of Media-for-Equity Participations

As part of the transaction, up to 16 minority participations of SevenVentures and other Group companies will be transferred to the new “Crosslantic Capital” fund. Lexington Partners is acquiring the majority of this fund, while SevenVentures will remain involved as a strategic media partner with a minority stake of approximately 24.5 %. Sales proceeds amount to a mid-double-digit million Euro figure. In regards to the media and cash investments made, ProSiebenSat.1 Group doubled the value and generated an IRR of around 30 %.

As part of the transaction, up to 16 minority participations of SevenVentures and other Group companies will be transferred to the new “Crosslantic Capital” fund. 

 

 

Lexington Partners is acquiring the majority of this fund, while SevenVentures will remain involved as a strategic media partner with a minority stake of approximately 24.5 %. Crosslantic Capital is managed by Sascha van Holt, who was previously responsible for SevenVentures’ investments as Managing Director. Besides the development of the current portfolio companies, Crosslantic Capital will also invest in further promising digital companies.

A battle for millions in media: Tinkerbots wins ProSiebenSat1’s startup competition “SevenVentures Pitch Day”

It is one of the most lucrative competitions for startups: the SevenVentures Pitch Day. With the ring of the bell, the fifth SevenVentures Pitch Day kicked off in Munich, set on the DLDsummer Conference’s international stage. The following six startups from across Europe battled for the startup competition’s mega media budget prize: Bux (Netherlands), EXPORO (Germany), Kitchen Stories (Germany), Happn (France), Tinkerbots (Germany) und carwow (England). These startups’ innovative business ideas allowed them to surpass more than one hundred other applicants in the qualifying rounds. Bux makes trading stocks game-like. The mission of the crowdsourcing platform EXPORO is loud and clear: Investing in real estate simply and directly. Kitchen Stories no longer does “its own recipe thing.” Rather, it shares them with an enormous fan base with good taste. And keep your eyes on Happn. They offer a digital market place for love at second sight. Tinkerbots brings robots right into children’s rooms and provides excitement and creative ideas. And carwow not only compares new car offers, but also compares to the other startups. 

SevenVentures Pitch Day is not just a matter of glory and honor. The investment branch of ProSiebenSat.1 awards a prize in the form of a “full service media package.” This includes EUR 3 million in the form of TV media, an online advertising volume of EUR 200,000 and for the first time a digital-out-of-home campaign valued at EUR 70,000. SevenVentures also makes the production of a customized TV spot and campaign management possible, which allows the victorious company to reach their targeted customers on the TV group’s network more precisely. 

Entering the pitch arena to their specifically chosen music, the six new heavyweights to the startup scene were welcomed by moderator Steven Gätjen. In the first round of SevenVentures Pitch Day, each pair of candidates delivered a direct verbal exchange of blows to convince the jury: Their presentations had to win over Nikolaus Röttger, chief editor of WIRED Germany, investment expert Luciana Lixandru from Accel, and SevenVenture’s managing director Sascha van Holt.

BUX, Kitchen Stories, and Tinkerbots each qualified for the final round within three minutes, thanks to their especially convincing pitches. However, Tinkerbots was able to pull ahead of the other competitors. Sascha van Holt, managing director of SevenVentures, looks forward to working with the startup: “Tinkerbots combines robotics, mobile gaming, and childhood memories - and with our help, it will take children’s rooms across Germany by storm!” 

The audience of guests, media representatives, and DLDsummer Conference visitors made their choice of victor by televoting in the final round. In the end, Tinkerbots came out on top and now has the opportunity to reach an audience of millions through TV and online advertising.

It all started at the Bauhaus University in Weimar where Christian Guder and Leo Oschütz met in 2005. They both studied product design and were similarly fond of unusual projects. Matthias Bürger, who was writing his doctoral thesis on economic innovations at the time, already knew both Christian and Leo from his circle of friends. In 2011, the three met with the goal of introducing the best robotic toy the world has ever seen to the market. SevenVentures Pitch Day: Six start-ups compete for a ProSiebenSat.1 TV advertising deal worth EUR 3 million

Founders instead of gladiators, storytelling instead of swordplay, and creativity instead of combat; still, there is a lot at stake for the contestants. According to Forbes, the SevenVentures Pitch Day is one of the most important start-up contests in the world. The venue for this mega battle is the media city of Munich. The investment arm of the ProSiebenSat.1 Group is hosting the start-up contest for the fifth year in a row and the DLDsummer Conference is the perfect arena for this contest. The SevenVentures Pitch Day gives fast-growing B2C enterprises the chance to present their business models to an international audience; and the winner will have the chance to reach an audience of millions through TV and online advertising. 

The prize and the finalists

Six innovative enterprises have qualified for the SevenVentures Pitch Day. The winner will be able to take their company to the next level with the aid of TV advertising. The prize offered by SevenVentures is a full-service media package. The first part of this package consists of TV media worth EUR 3 million. A 20-second ad spot running for two months on ProSieben’s six TV channels can generate approximately 225 million impressions. In addition, ProSieben will sponsor EUR 50,000 for spot development. The second part of the prize package consists of an online marketing budget worth EUR 200,000, with which the winning start-up can generate 2.5 million impressions in one and a half months. The final part is a digital out-of-home budget worth EUR 70,000. A 10-second ad message placed on digital outdoor advertising platforms can generate up to 22,000 impressions in a week. The duration and impressions generated by any advertising campaign depend on the campaign’s planning and target group. The six finalists that qualified for the SevenVentures Pitch Day now have the chance to take their business to the next level by winning this awesome prize package. 

5th SevenVentures Pitch Day Finalists

The following finalists will participate in this year’s SevenVentures Pitch Day: BUX puts Wall Street on your smartphone, making trading stocks as easy as playing a game. EXPORO’s innovative crowd-investing platform makes it easy to invest directly in real estate. The recipes and videos of the cooking app KITCHENSTORIES will make you hungry for more. The dating app HAPPN gives you a second chance at a first impression, because it enables you to meet up with the people you encounter every day. TINKERBOTS lets you build your own robots with ease and CARWOW is the internet portal that lets you easily compare the best offers on new car. 

The pitch day program and expert jury

The pitches will be evaluated by a jury of experts consisting of SevenVentures CEO Sascha van Holt, Accel’s investment expert Luciana Lixandru and WIRED’s Editor-in-Chief Nikolaus Röttger. In the elevator pitch, the contestants will have three minutes to present their business concept with enthusiasm, showmanship and expertise. After each pitch, the finalists will be grilled by the jury. We are happy to have a Steven Gätjen on board. Steven Gätjen is our moderator and will guide us through this amazing event. For the first time, this year’s SevenVentures Pitch Day (7VPD) will be held as part of Hubert Burda Media’s DLDsummer Conference at the home location of both media companies. With this move SevenVentures, the investment arm of the ProSiebenSat.1 Group, is taking its founders’ contest to a new level. The common goal of this partnership is to promote Germany as an economic center of digital transformation.

As a prize, SevenVentures is offering a full-service media package composed of €3 million in the form of TV media, an online advertising volume of €200,000, and for the first time a digital-out-of-home campaign valued at €70,000. In addition, SevenVentures will facilitate the production of a custom-tailored TV spot to enable the winning company to reach customers in a targeted manner on the TV group’s channels.

SnapCam wins ProSiebenSat.1’s SevenVentures Pitch Day in London

The winner of this year’s SevenVentures Pitch Day (7VPD) is SnapCam from the United Kingdom. In this annual contest, which was held in London for the fourth year in a row, the team led by founder Richard Skaife convinced the jury and the audience of their business idea. The start-up will receive a prize of several millions’ worth of media volume which it can use to advertise its product to an audience of millions on the TV stations of the ProSiebenSat.1 Group. In addition, SnapCam will receive a complete package of campaign management services, online media space, creation and production of the advertising campaign, spot testing, brand familiarity measurement and ongoing optimization based on media analytics. ls".

The viewers experienced a particularly suspenseful contest this because the candidates were called upon to prove themselves in “blind pitches.” During the short pitches, the jury members, all of whom representatives of the European media groups Channel4 (UK), TF1 (France), Antenna Group (Southeast Europe), TVN (Poland), and host ProSiebenSat.1, sat with their backs to the stage. This way, the contestants could not score points with trailers and fancy presentations, but only with the content of their pitches.

SnapCam is a photo app with which users can produce elaborate photo album layouts in a very short time, thanks to a special algorithm, and then order top-quality print-outs and have them delivered anywhere in the world. With this remarkably easy-to-use mobile service, Richard Skaife edged out Séverine Payet of Mixfader from France in the final audience vote. Other candidates were Pockee, Oort and Gegengift.

The SevenVentures Pitch Day (7VPD) is going into its fourth round with a new concept: For the first time, five European media companies will nominate their own start-up candidates. The start-up contest established by ProSiebenSat.1’s subsidiary SevenVentures has been held in connection with the NOAH Conference in London since 2012. This year, TV companies Channel4 (UK), TF1 (France), TVN (Poland) and Antenna Group (Greece), plus ProSiebenSat.1 will each nominate one start-up from their region to vie for the title of first “Venture of Europe.” The winner will receive a marketing package worth several million euros of media time on the TV stations of ProSiebenSat.1. The winner will receive additional support in the creation of advertising campaigns, in the optimal management of spots, and ongoing optimization through the use of media analytics.

Five teams, five minutes each, facing five experts. On June 10, 2015, the finalists fought for their TV media budget on ProSiebenSat.1’s channels at this year’s first SevenVentures Pitch Day (7VPD) in Berlin. It was already the fourth time that promising businesses competed against each other at the NOAH Conference, but for the first time this year in Berlin and with a theme. With businesses in the “Health & Fitness” sector, the focus was on one of the worldwide booming growth segments in the digital industry. The winner in the health and fitness arena is called Withings. With its wearables and apps, the startup from France combines innovation, technology, and design. Its products help improve daily well-being and thereby contribute to long-term health. 

As Sascha van Holt, Managing Director at SevenVentures, puts it, “In Withings we have a persuasive winner that can now significantly increase its market recognition with the power of television. The “Health & Fitness” sector works especially well with television campaigns, as our participation in Jawbone, the leading vendor of wearables, impressively shows. That’s why we will continue to be on the lookout for new and exciting investments.”

On the main stage of the NOAH Conference, the team led by CEO Cédric Hutchings defeated the competition with passion and spirit. In addition to winning a three-million-euro TV media budget, it is gaining not only the multi-channel marketing power of the ProSiebenSat.1 Group with its audience of millions. As part of the “Platform Europe” program, Withings will also receive operational support through a European television network which also includes the cooperation partners TF1 (France), Dogan TV (Turkey), Modern Times Group (Northern Europe), TVN Group (Poland), Antenna Group (Greece), and Channel4 (Great Britain), in addition to ProSiebenSat.1.

The panel of experts was also persuaded by the diabetes Web service mySugr. The team, represented by Anton Kittelberger, lands in second place and receives prize money of two million euros’ worth of media volume.

- Withings (France) offers a number of products and services     that guarantee users greater well-being and better long-term health.     Withings has an ecosystem of interconnected tools for health, ranging from     the multifaceted activity tracker Withings Pulse Ox and the intelligent     scale to the wireless blood pressure measuring device and the sleep     monitor Withings Aura.

- mySugr (Austria) wants to simplify everyday treatment     for diabetes patients and has developed its own apps, Web services, and     Diabetes Academy for that purpose. The products stand out through their     intelligent combination of design, technology, and medical diabetes     expertise.

The five finalists were selected from a total of 150 business ideas submitted from the Health & Fitness sector: the consultation app MeeDoc (Finland), the diabetes assistant mySugr (Austria), the fitness motivator Runtastic (Austria), the tinnitus therapy Tinnitracks (Germany), and the app for greater well-being, Withings (France).

Finalists selected for “SevenVentures Pitch Day” / finale on June 10 at the NOAH Conference in Berlin

The contest, which has already been held three times in London and once in Tel Aviv, has come up with something new in Berlin: for the first time, the focus will be on a specific cluster selected from the booming growth segments of the worldwide digital industry, in this case companies from the “Health & Fitness” sector.

The finalists:

- MeeDoc (Finland)     digitally links physicians and patients, permitting location- and     time-independent communication during medical treatment. Through this     approach the company has a positive effect on the quality of medical     consultations and to contribute to improved health care throughout Europe.

mySugr (Austria) seeks to simplify everyday treatment for diabetes patients and has developed its own apps, web services, and even its own Diabetes Academy. The products are notable for their intelligent blending of design, technology, and medical expertise on diabetes.

- Runtastic (Austria): With over 120 million downloads, the Runtastic app is already one of the best-known and most popular products in the “Health & Fitness” sector. Runtastic collects health- and fitness-specific data to motivate users in their athletic performance.

- Tinnitracks (Germany) is a medical product for tinnitus treatment that has already won several awards. Brought to market by Sonormed, it gives tinnitus patients access to a new Internet-based form of therapy. Using filtering software, patients can prepare their favorite music to allow neuro-acoustic tinnitus therapy.

- Withings (France) offers numerous products and services guaranteeing users greater well-being and, over the long term, better health. Withings has an ecosystem of interrelated health tools ranging from the multifaceted activity tracker Withings Pulse Ox and the intelligent scale to a wireless blood pressure measuring device and the sleep monitor Withings Aura.

To leave the stage as a winner, participating companies will face questions from a five-member jury. The event will also be live-streamed on the Internet at www.7vpd.com at 2:30 p.m. on June 10.

SevenVentures, the participation arm of ProSiebenSat.1, has been putting on 7VPD since 2012. With the additional venue of the NOAH Conference in Berlin, SevenVentures has also decided to put on the competition at this event.

- Roomlr (Netherlands): Roomlr is a globally active meta-search engine for accommodations in every price category. Unlike similar providers, Roomlr only acts as a broker for rooms reserved via third parties. This way, the company can already offer more than 1.2 million accommodations of all kinds around the world.

- SquadRun (India): SquadRun is a mobile marketplace. It helps businesses outsource micro-tasks that require human intelligence. From the user side, SquadRun is a gamified app that allows anybody with a smartphone to make money on a per task basis. Under the slogan “Get paid to play,” this India-based company offers a platform that gives companies and individuals the opportunity to advertise various tasks online, which can be performed by other users for a fee.

- Showroom (Poland & CEE): offers personalized fashion from up-and-coming Polish designers, as well as worldwide labels, at www.showroom.pl. Showroom is the biggest Polish curated marketplace fully focused on independent fashion.

- Pico (USA): Pico collects pictures that were taken by your friends during any lifetime occasion into one collaborative, real-time album. The technology seamlessly collects the pictures people are taking, in real time, into one cohesive social network album. Users continue to take pictures with their regular camera application, and Pico does the rest. Private use (collecting pictures to a Facebook Profile) is free. You can use it in any occasion you want to collect pictures in. Commercial use (collecting pictures to a Facebook Page) is charged by the picture.
